Distracted by free T-shirt swag, I blindly stumbled into Broadband TV’s booth at VidCon this year.  Between selecting the “Watch Me On….” logo for my t-shirt and managing the two 12 year old girls I had brought with me, I learned about VISO, Broadband’s new networking community for content creators.  Luckily, someone screamed that iJustine had just blinked nearby and the girls ran off, allowing me the pleasure of chatting one on one with Andrew Wall, or Awall, who’s the head of The Gaming Network (TGN) and been with Broadband TV for almost two years.  – Erin Stegeman

What is Viso?  What are some of the benefits of Viso versus any Jo just signing up for a channel on YouTube?
VISO is a network community that consists of passionate video creators in the Gaming, Music, Entertainment, Sports and Lifestyle genres. As a part of BroadbandTV, VISO is the 4th largest MCN on YouTube, and continues to grow at a blinding speed. TGN is also a YouTube network under Broadband TV, and focuses solely on gaming. Our tagline is “We Are Gamers” because TGN was built by gamers for gamers. We support gaming YouTubers and help them pursue their passion and make a living doing it. Our partners, staff, and viewers all engage in our
community and eSports events making TGN the only gaming network you can truly participate in. We are the largest eSports YouTube Network, and you can check out our eSports partners and initiatives here.

I work hand in hand with VISO on a daily basis, and our teams complement each other nicely. Both VISO and TGN are passionate about the blend of video, technology and community, and we help our partners grow their audience on their own terms. We have an exclusive web platform that helps boost traffic and engagement for our partner’s content, and they can join our community of over 10,000+ passionate
YouTubers, and take advantage of our topnotch support.

How does someone partner with Viso? And what can I expect once I join/ sign up?
If you are interested in partnering with the VISO Network you can apply here.. For TGN partnership you can apply here.  I truly care about our partners, because I started as a gaming YouTuber. I know how passionate our partners are about growing their channel, because I share that passion. I believe that it is my responsibility to provide my partners with the resources and support they need to succeed. As a partner you can expect to have expect to have highly responsive partner support, technology to grow your channel, a thriving community, fair revenue share, benefits including dedicated VIP support and direct ad sales for qualified partners..

What’s your favorite feature?
Personally, I like our TGN Staff AMA that is available exclusively to TGN Partners in our private partner forums. Our partners can ask myself, or any number of other TGN Staff members any question they want anytime they want. We do not give canned responses, we give honest feedback and take partner feedback to heart. We like to stay connected with our partners so that we invest our resources into the things they truly need. YouTube Networks need to be doing more of this sort of thing.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out managing a channel?
My advice on this subject will be brutally honest. Do not expect to get internet famous in a few weeks or months. The big channels you see at the top of YouTube have, for the most part, been producing content for years. Posting consistently, and creating content that targets an untapped niche are staples of a successful YouTuber. Simply posting videos on YouTube and hoping the views will come rolling in is a recipe for disappointment. If you want to be successful you will need to dedicate a significant amount of time into your channel.

Building community and loyalty for your channel requires a lot of hard work, and spamming your videos on social media and forums is not going to cut it. You have to engage your audience in a genuine way and put effort into that building relationship and maintaining it to grow. Above all else, you need to focus on presenting one or two things: Entertaining video content, or informative
video content. If your videos do not do a good job of either of those functions, they will not succeed.

Please keep in mind that collaborating with your fellow YouTuber is the #1 way to grow on this platform. Make connections in your niche and build on them, it will pay off in the long run. Joining a network like VISO or TGN is a great way to start making connections on YouTube. We work with our partners to share
best practices, and facilitate collaborations and events. Additionally, we have support knowledge base that helps partners that are just getting started learn the basics.

Is there anything else you’d wish to promote or that’s coming up for BroadbandTV?
Lot’s of activity is in the works, watch this space!

Lastly, I think you have the coolest booth here at VidCon (making your own tshirts).  Are you comfortable with taking all the credit?
I totally agree with you, and I am not biased at all. I am perfectly fine with taking 100% of the credit for the booth. Our talented marketing, creative, operations, and onsite team had nothing to do with the planning and execution of our killer booth. Nothing at all.  It was all me, Awall. ;)

The worst and most character-defining moment in her career was undoubtedly a 2-hour long audition for a traveling dance-puppet show, in which she had to wear a 3ft wide pig head and equally long clown shoes – all while lip-syncing about her house made of straw. She did not book the job and cried for 3 days straight. Erin blogs at QueenieWasABlonde.blogspot.com.
